Privacy Policy
Effective November 4, 2026
This policy explains how Twolight, an app by Christian Almanza ("we", "us"), handles your information. Questions: support@twolightapp.com.
The short version
- We don't collect your data. We have no servers that store what you put in Twolight, and we can't see it.
- Your information stays on your iPhone, and, once you link with your partner, in your own iCloud account through Apple.
- Your partner sees only what Twolight shares between partners, and only after you approve them by name.
- Your location is never sent to your partner, and never to us.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and we never sell or share your information.
- Apple Intelligence features run on your iPhone. What you write isn't sent anywhere to use them.
Where your information lives
| What | Where it's kept | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| Your name, schedules, chores, grocery list, gestures, talk-light status, date plans | On your iPhone; once linked, also in your iCloud and the shared space you and your partner create | You, and your partner once you've approved them |
| Date memories: words, photos, videos, voice memos, song links | On your iPhone (and your iCloud once linked) | Only you, unless you choose to share a reflection |
| Journal pages: mood, words, photos, videos | On your iPhone; once iCloud backup is on, in your own private iCloud, never the space you share with your partner | Only you. Never your partner, never us |
| Favorites and gift ideas (with their photos and links), anniversary and birthday notes | On your iPhone | Only you |
| Check-in notes | On your iPhone, kept for the time you choose | Only you |
| Home and work locations (for "when I get home" reminders and the on-the-way countdown) | On your iPhone only | Only you. Never your partner, never us |
| Which Terms you agreed to, and when | On your iPhone | Only you |
What goes to Apple
Twolight uses Apple's own services, which Apple handles under its privacy policy:
- iCloud (CloudKit) stores and syncs your shared information between your two phones once you link them. It's in your iCloud account; we can't read it.
- Apple Maps receives the search (for example "pizza") and an approximate area when you use Surprise us, to find places nearby. When you tap Heading home or Heading to work, it also receives where you are at that moment and your home or work point, once, to estimate the drive with current traffic. If you turn on Live updates on the way, it receives where you are every few minutes during that trip only, to keep the estimate current. Your partner sees only the estimated arrival time, never where you are.
- Siri handles your voice when you use a Twolight shortcut.
- The App Store handles subscriptions and payments. We never see your payment details.
What your partner sees
Once you pair and approve them, your partner sees what Twolight shares between partners: your work hours, chores between you, hugs and praise, your talk light and any note on it, running late, heading home or heading to work (with when you'll arrive), your energy status if you set one, the grocery list, date plans, the shared plans you add (family events, outings, appointments) and whether they've seen them, and any reflection you choose to share. They never see your location, your favorites, your private reflections, your journal, or your check-in notes. Either of you can unpair at any time, which stops future sharing; it can't take back what was already seen.
Your journal
The journal is just for you. Your pages, the mood you pick, and their photos and videos stay on your iPhone and are never shared with your partner. When iCloud backup arrives, they'll be kept in your own private iCloud so they survive a new phone or reinstalling the app, with the words stored end-to-end encrypted. The mood is only a record: Twolight doesn't analyze it, react to it or use it for anything. You can back up everything at any time (Settings → Back up everything) as a file that opens in any web browser and can be restored into Twolight.
Permissions Twolight may ask for
Each is asked only when you first use the feature that needs it, and you can change it any time in iOS Settings.
| Permission | Used for | Not used for |
|---|---|---|
| Notifications | Reminders for chores, dates, birthdays and check-ins | Marketing |
| Location (while using the app) | Setting home or work, finding places for Surprise us, and estimating your drive when you tap Heading home or Heading to work | Tracking you, or telling your partner where you are |
| Location (Always), optional | Only if you turn on Live updates on the way: keeping your arrival time accurate during a Heading home or Heading to work trip, and ending the trip when you arrive. It starts when you tap and stops when you get there, clear the trip, or it times out | Anything outside a trip, storing where you've been, or telling your partner where you are |
| Calendar | Adding dates you've locked in and shared plans, if you turn that on | Reading your calendar |
| Microphone | Recording a voice memo about a date, when you tap Record | Anything else |
| Photos | Adding the photos and videos you pick to a memory or journal page. They're re-saved without their location data | Browsing your library |
| Camera | Taking a photo to save with a favorite or gift idea, when you tap Take one | Anything else |
| Face ID | Keeping your gift ideas private on your phone | Anything else. Apple handles Face ID; Twolight only learns yes or no |
Apple Intelligence
On iPhones that support it, Twolight can suggest other ways to word a note, sort a chore from a sentence, make a grocery list, and write a few lines looking back on your year. These run on your iPhone's built-in model; what you write isn't sent to us or to anyone else. Suggestions only fill in a box for you to edit; nothing is sent to your partner unless you send it.
Subscriptions
Twolight Plus is sold by Apple through your Apple ID. Apple tells us a subscription is active; we never receive your name, payment details or purchase history.
What we never do
- Sell, rent or share your information with anyone.
- Show ads, or use advertising or analytics tools.
- Track you across other apps or websites.
- Share your location with your partner, or keep it ourselves.
- Read, monitor or review anything you write, including your messages, reflections and journal. We have no way to.
Your choices and deleting your information
- Delete one thing: chores, favorites, reflections, notes and check-ins can each be deleted in the app.
- Delete everything on this phone: Settings → Start over, or delete the app.
- Keep a copy: Settings → Back up everything saves all your Twolight information, including your journal, gift ideas, photos and videos, as a file you choose where to keep, and Restore from a copy puts it back. Backups aren't encrypted by Twolight, and once saved they're under your control: keep them somewhere private, like iCloud Drive.
- Shared information: unpair in Settings to stop sharing. To remove synced data from iCloud, manage Twolight's storage in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud.
- Check-in notes are kept only as long as you choose (Past check-ins → Keep notes for).
Because we don't hold your information, there's nothing for us to send you or delete on our side. If you have a question, write to support@twolightapp.com.
Children
Twolight is for adults 18 and older. It isn't meant for children, and we don't knowingly let anyone under 18 use it.
Security
Your information on the phone is protected by iOS's built-in encryption whenever your iPhone has a passcode, which iOS needs for Face ID and Touch ID. If you don't use a passcode, we recommend setting one. Siri shortcuts need an unlocked phone. Copied favorites stay on that phone and clear after two minutes. Information synced through iCloud is protected by Apple.
Changes to this policy
If we change what Twolight does with your information, we'll update this page and its date, and tell you in the app before the change applies to you.
